What is the Indiana Transmission Line Project?

The Indiana Transmission Line is approximately 20 miles and is 345 kilovolts. It will run between the Lake County and Porter County substations in Indiana. The project includes a 140-foot-wide easement with typical above-ground transmission line structures that are 125 feet tall.

What is the need for this project?

This project was acquired by NEET MidAtlantic IN in 2020. To address reliability risk due to aged and obsolete components, a proposal to rebuild this transmission line, originally built in the 1950’s, was submitted to and approved by PJM in 2021. As a part of PJM's regional transmission processes, this project contributes to its goal of achieving a future grid driven through public policy, resource mix and new technologies and will enhance its operational flexibility to ensure that reliability and resiliency remain paramount.

What are the benefits of this project?

The Indiana Assets Transmission Project will facilitate the reliable delivery of lower-cost electricity to Indiana customers. The Project will also create local employment opportunities during construction and operation of the line.
