Powering the MidAtlantic Region

The proposed MidAtlantic Resiliency Link transmission project is designed to ensure that the regional electric system – the system that powers homes, businesses and communities – is reliable for decades to come. Spanning Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia, the MidAtlantic Resiliency Link will not only meet those everyday needs, but will be able to withstand the increasingly severe weather events that are becoming more common.

The regional transmission organization is charged under federal law with the responsibility of meeting the electricity needs of the region. That includes identifying what changes and additions to the electric grid are needed to ensure reliability. The MidAtlantic Resiliency Link was selected through a rigorous, competitive process because it was the most effective and cost-efficient solution for addressing those needs.

Grid Improvements

This project will bring substantial improvements to the electric grid, reducing the risk of service interruptions and blackouts, including during extreme weather events. In doing so, the new lines will help ensure more reliable power for communities in the region including for emergency services, such as hospitals and fire stations.

As part of the scope of this project, NextEra Energy Transmission MidAtlantic will construct and operate the transmission line. NextEra Energy Transmission MidAtlantic and its affiliates represent a trusted and reliable company that is already delivering cost-efficient generation and transmission projects. This proven track record in the MidAtlantic region consists of more than 500 MWs of wind, solar and battery resources.

Regulatory and Permitting Approvals

MidAtlantic Resiliency Link will require regulatory and permitting approvals at the federal, state and local levels. The project team is dedicated to working with local communities to foster open and transparent communications throughout the siting and permitting process.

Community Outreach

NextEra Energy Transmission MidAtlantic is committed to working with local communities, regional stakeholders, regulators and landowners to ensure the successful completion of the project. Our goal is full transparency and collaboration with community members, and we will work with all stakeholders to develop and execute this project to ensure the critical electric reliability needs of the region are met.
